CNC turning is a metal fabrication process that involves holding a part in place on a rotating spindle that makes contact with a stationary tool to remove material until the part is the desired shape.
The main advantage of CNC turning is that it can form complex geometries that would otherwise be impossible to form in CNC mills. This is especially true for cylindrical parts or "wavy" features, which would be extremely difficult to form on a CNC mill otherwise. This is not to say that CNC turning can only produce rounded parts; a lathe can produce a wide range of geometries, including square and hexagonal shapes.
