How to select different CNC machine tools

CNC generation includes various machining processes, including drilling, boring, milling, etc. Most of them can be realized by CNC lathe or CNC milling machine.

Another point to consider is the efficiency of the lathe itself. Over the years, CNC lathes have been iterated many times. The early numerical control lathe and the computer numerical control lathe are completely incomparable compared with the advanced modern numerical control lathe used now. Modern machine tools are faster and more efficient. In the long run, this speed will make parts production cheaper.

In addition, the cost of cutting tools also affects the cost of the overall equipment. The material, coating and geometry of the tool all affect this cost. For example, cemented carbide tools are harder, more resistant to high temperatures, and can withstand high-speed operation. Their costs are twice as high as those of steel tools.

Why is CNC milling machine more expensive?

Because of the characteristics of more complex movable parts, milling machines are generally more expensive than lathes. The assembly, operation and maintenance of the milling machine are more difficult, but more complex operations can be achieved. Therefore, CNC milling machines are generally more expensive than other machine tools.

There are different types of milling machines, with different levels of complexity and capability. The more shafts a milling machine has, the more expensive it is. Most modern CNC machine tools have three or five axes. Although the five axis machine tool can produce very complex geometric shapes more accurately and quickly (so the required processing time is shorter), it is generally much more expensive than the corresponding three-axis machine tool.
